What is OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training?

If you’re a safety manager or supervisor, our OSHA 30-Hour Outreach for General Industry course is your guide to creating a culture of safety in your workplace. You’ll get a comprehensive look at the policies, procedures, and standards covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910. 

You’ll learn about the basic elements of a workplace safety and health program and how to manage both. This includes understanding an employer’s responsibilities for worker safety, as well as worker’s rights to learn about the potential hazards of their job.  

Topics

The course also covers all the hazards you might encounter in many different industries, from scaffolding to bloodborne pathogens. You’ll learn about essential safety procedures like lock-out/tag-out protocols, machine guarding mechanisms, and industrial hygiene.

Intended Audience

OSHA 30 General Industry is not required but is recommended for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors. All workers in general industries can benefit from it. Examples of these industries include manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and health care.

Learning Objectives

This course will develop skilled laborers who are better prepared for safeguarding against the top causes of fatalities and accidents in the workplace; have developed strong problem-solving and risk assessment skills; and have an enhanced ability to adhere to protocols proposed by OSHA to promote safety and reduce workplace injuries or fatalities.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize what worker rights are protected under OSHA 
  • Recognize what responsibilities an employer has under OSHA
  • Identify major fall hazards as well as other related job hazards, and have knowledge on how to mitigate risks and avoid injuries or the possibility of death, among other topics

The course covers the following OSHA required topics: 

  • An introduction to OSHA and OSHA regulations;
  • General safety and health provisions
  • Fire protection
  • Process safety management
  • Materials handling and storage
  • Scaffolds;
  • Hazardous materials, including lead and asbestos;
  • Hazard communications
  • Electrical safety
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Fall prevention and protection;

and much more.

Course Materials

The Instructor, Instructor’s assistant, or admin staff may provide notepads and pens, or instruct learners to bring notepads and pens with them. Students are informed prior to the start of the course of the classroom/registration policy that includes rules on class attendance, tardiness, and expectations for completion of the course.

Course Requirements and Participation 

This training program takes at least thirty (30) hours to complete. You must pass a 20-question comprehensive final exam on the final day of the course. You will have two (2) opportunities to take and complete the exam with a passing grade of at least 70%.

Students must earn a 70% or more in their final exam in order to successfully complete the training. Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in class (this includes completing any assigned quizzes or demos), and attend the course for the complete number of hours required.

Successful completion of the course will merit a Training Completion card and an A.S.T. Certificate of Completion.
