4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher Course

Course Description

Approved by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), this course provides four hours of Site Safety Training (SST) credits that NYC construction workers can apply toward their full SST card.

The 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher course is designed to train workers to gain the ability to recognize and avoid safety hazards associated with supported scaffold use. Learners will be instructed on the importance of safety controls, fall prevention equipment, inspections and emergency planning.
This training also covers OSHA 1926 regulations and New York City Construction Codes that reduce the risk of supported scaffold accidents.

This course teaches New York City construction workers the basics of supported scaffold safety and effective ways to prevent accidents and unsafe work conditions.

Upon completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the types of supported scaffolds and various safety controls
  • Identify hazards associated with supported scaffolds
  • Explain how OSHA 1926 regulations and NYC Construction Codes help prevent supported scaffold accidents
  • Identify appropriate methods for reducing supported scaffold safety hazards
  • Describe how to mitigate fall risks utilizing fall arrest systems and other types of PPE
  • Explain how scaffold inspections and emergency planning can protect workers from inclement weather hazards and other unsafe work conditions

Format: Online or In-Person Training

 

This training program takes at least four (4) hours to complete. You must pass a 20-question comprehensive final exam on the final day of the program. You will have two (2) opportunities to take and complete the exam with a passing grade of at least 70%.

Students are required to participate fully in class (this includes completing any assigned quizzes or demos), attend both courses for the complete number of hours required, and score at least a 70% on the final exam to successfully complete the course and receive SST course credit.

Successful completion of the program and any applicable pre- and co-requisites will merit an A.S.T. Certificate of Completion as well as a wallet-sized Training Certification Card.

This course does not provide a DOB-issued SST card. To receive an SST card, you must finish all required training and pre-requisites and provide the course certificates to Advanced Safety Training, or another DOB-approved Site Safety Training course provider.
