How to Become a NYS Security Guard

Take the 8-Hour Course
Complete Pre-Assignment Training before applying for your initial NYS security guard registration.
Get Fingerprinted
Schedule electronic fingerprinting through an authorized IdentoGO location and keep your receipt.
Apply to New York State
Submit your completed application with your 8-hour certificate, fingerprint receipt and required state fee.
Take the 16-Hour Course
Complete On-the-Job Training within 90 days of starting security guard employment.
Start Strong with One Bundle
Get both required courses, the fingerprinting fee, and the NYS application fee. We'll handle the application paperwork for you, so you can focus on training.
The $450 bundle is collected at enrollment. Fingerprinting and NYS application fees are paid when those steps begin after the 8-hour class. State approval is determined by New York State.
Training Policies
These policies apply to the New York State security guard courses offered by Advanced Safety Training Consultants, LLC, and are separate from policies for our other training programs.
Course refunds
- Before instruction begins: 100% refund of course tuition.
- Two-day course: 50% tuition refund if withdrawal is requested after day one but before day two begins.
- Course with more sessions: tuition refund is prorated based on course days completed, as described in our school catalog.
- We do not charge non-refundable school registration fees, cancellation fees, or deposits for these courses.
$450 bundle and outside fees
The full bundle price is collected at enrollment. We pay the fingerprinting and NYS application fees when those steps begin after the 8-hour class, not at signup.
If you cancel before instruction begins, you receive a full refund. If you cancel later, course tuition follows the refund schedule above and any outside fees not yet paid on your behalf are returned. Fees already paid to an outside provider are subject to that provider's refund rules; we can provide an itemized accounting.
Attendance and class participation
100% attendance is required. If illness, a family emergency, childcare, or another reasonable cause prevents you from attending, notify the school of your absence by phone or email. Students may be allowed to make up missed hours during the next available course; make-up training is granted on a case-by-case basis. Students who do not notify the school may be excluded from making up missed hours, but may appeal to the Training School Director.
Students arriving more than 15 minutes late may need to reschedule that course day. The registered student must attend, participate, and silence devices during instruction. Completion documents are issued only after all required hours are completed.
Refund requests and questions
Submit a cancellation request in writing, by phone, or in person to an authorized school official at Advanced Safety Training Consultants, LLC (718-675-3944). Refunds are granted within three days of receiving the request.
